Saturday - March 1, 2003

12:35p - I just got my hair cut about an hour and a half ago. The Marti Gras Parade was starting at the same time. I could hear some "booms" of fireworks (or something).

Pictures of Donny I took a cab down to Soulard (or at least, part way, for $10!). I had to walk from about Soulard Market all the way to Menard & Allen/Russell streets. I ran into Joe from work, which was quite unexpected. I stood in line at Clem's for about an hour waiting to get in! I kind of had to since I had very little cash and need to use the ATM machine (which was, of course, INside). I had a few drinks, very strong, and decided to head home. While walking down Broadway (it was a long, wet and dreary walk), I met up with a young man named Donny. I ended up buying him dinner at Taco Bell. The we went home where I walked Kira (and we had another beer). I ended up indoctrinating Donny into the jubchuQun; he was the first person to have his picture taken with the new batlh'etlh that Skip bought me.

We left and went to LZ, then to The Complex where we proceeded to get smashed, dance our butts off and have a pretty good time! I spent WAY too much money, but it was worth it to have pleasant company and a good time. It has been a while since I had fun like that.

We took a cab back to my place and he crashed here.

Sunday - March 2, 2003

I fixed us some food this morning and Donnyleft around noon. I hope he calls me again... I left my number with him. He seems like a nice guy and it would be cool to have someone to go out with and party. Oh... he is also a member of the pagan community. He was going to the "Rainbow Gathering" (which I am not familiar with).

Me being silly during Marti Gras

Police cars in the Marti Gras Parade as seen from my living room window.

I sat around all day recovering from my excessive fun last night. I also did some new stuff on my web site. I learned to create "flash buttons" which are VERY COOL! I am going to hurt myself patting my own back on this one! I also [pat, pat, pat] managed to create a video (of "Grand Adm. Khur") and upload it to my web site. After much trial & error... IT WORKS!!!

The meds I ordered on-line are STILL not being processed! This is bad. I am almost out of everything.

Monday - March 3, 2003

I was so perky and energetic today. Work was about the same old routine. I came home, had some beers and worked some more on my web pages. I found the video of us in St. Pete when we (jubchuQun members) met George Takai. I created a neat little video of all four of us (me, Marita, Karen and Shawn) getting our pictures taken with him.

Xavier called me today. I will try to call him back later. He called me the other night too and I forgot to call. I hope he's okay.

I made some "home made" sausage tonight with chicken, pork, bell pepper, onion, spices and herbs. It's not too bad!

Tuesday - March 4, 2003
Shovetide / Marti Gras

I was not so perky today. I felt awful when I got up. I made some rice this morning with some of last night's sausage and nuts. I did not get the usual compliments from Gary, but I liked it. I am not sure about him. He is sort of my 'gauge' for rice quality (strange, but true).

I got a call from the State Attorney's Office tonight. They need me to come in for some kind of pretrial instruction regarding the C.Nimitz case from last April! I told Laura, emailed Becky, and (after considerable thought) I sent a copy of the email to Skip's boss. I knew he would be pissed at me. He was. He will deal with it. I know what I'm doing. I got kind of pissed myself. I've been working in the "admin" environment for nearly 30 years; nearly as long as he's been alive. He may fear being embararssed by me, and I am a little hurt by that, but I know this was not a bad move on my part. I think (after he read the email) he was a little less bent about it. He didn't really say.

There was a parage downtown this evening for Marti Gras. I did not care and did not go watch. That's kind of funny. Many people came from far away to line the street of what I call "my front yard," and I couldn't have cared less.

Hmmm ... I keep forgetting to call Xavier back. I bet he thinks I am avoiding him.

Wednesday - March 5, 2003

I made it on time to my meeting with Mr. Rourke this morning. Y'idench' on' iih' aasw' ogaeny' uut' iib' os' aathe! T'be ~iih' aasw' aathe. Aanj' ungye. However, he asked all the same questions that he has already asked, except I had to take off time from work to have him ask them. This is getting tiresome. It's a shame, but cultures we consider less civilized often deal with the criminals more quickly and with more just; and treat their victims with more compassion and understanding. I fear our Justice System is aptly labeled "Criminal." I got to work about 11:00am. (There went some more of my vacation time). Mr. P. Rourke got "Mike" to give me a ride home, which was nice of him. However, in the time it took us to get ice of the windsheild, I could have walked home (literally).

This is stressing me out. I had to walk all over in the icy cold this morning trying to find 1114 Market. I think I almost fainted a couple of times! I didn't tell anyone about that; it was kind of scary! I have been having a ache around my heart all morning. I don't like that. I got in touch with "Barb" at the Grant Medical Center and got my prescription issue taken care of. So far though, only one item has been shipped.

I RENEWED MY JUBCHUQUN.COM DOMAIN
FOR 2 YEARS TONIGHT

11:34pm - I went to Talayna's after work and took a copy of my draft wine list to her for review. Jerry added some wines to the list. I had a pitcher-½ of beer and some cheesy garlic bread, then went home. I didn't get home till around 9:45 and back in from walking Kira at 10p.

11:51p - I made some pork & peas in sauce for supper. Time for bed now. I have to take Kira for her 2nd shot tomorrow. I have to leave early. And Friday I have my appointments plus Kira's 3rd shot. Busy day.

Thursday - March 6, 2003

12:00a- I am off to bed at precisely midnight! Money goes in the bank tonight! YAY...

I talked to Marlene tonight from about 10:30pm until 2am !!! I learned some interesting things, including that Cousin Jackied IS ALIVE!!! I thought he was dead (as per what 'lisa had told me last May). I have his address and last known phone number. I will have to contact him. He was always my favourite cousin!

Friday - March 7, 2003

11:42p- This has been a busy day. I got up around 11:50. Took a shower. Took a cab to my Grant Medical center for my 1:00 appointment with Avery; and my 2'o'clock with Campell. I had an EKG and an XRay (due to the chest pains). I had not eaten all day until about 2:30. I went to Hon's Wok and had some Seasame Chicken. Bill called me while I was there. Billy picked me up at the the doctor's office a little while laer, then took me to drop off my prescriptions.

Tony and myself at Talayna's Then he took me home, we picked up Kira and took her for her last shot. She seemed to deal with it better that she did yesterday. He then took me to pick up my meds from the CAM Pharmacy and then took me and Kira home. We then went looking for a place to eat. Billy was in the mood for something Mexican and I suggested mine and Jack's old favorite, "La Azteca Tacquiría". Apparently they are no longer there. Too bad. We ended up eating across the street at some place called Garduñoz.... or some such; I'm not sure. I got the caldo camerón (shrimp soup) and Billy got 3 burritos. He ate one burrito and I ate less than half my soup before we gave in and had to leave (with 'to go' boxes)!

Saturday - March 8, 2003

8:29a - I am having left-over soup from last night and I have the spread that I put on the sofa washing. It was 42º when I took Kira out. It's up to 46º now, and looks like it will be a beautiful day out. My throat was dry and raspy when I got up this morning

Sunday - March 9, 2003

1:29a - I was trying to watch Skip's new movie, "Wind Talkers" earlier this evening. But it was so upsetting, personal and hear-wrending that I couldn't not keep watching it. I was crying to much to enjoy it.

1:09p - Mi vekis cxi morgaux kaj estis multe tusanta. Mi ne povis spiri kaj sentis tre malbona. Mi sentas iomete pli bona nun, sed ankoraux mi tusas.

Kira is continuing to recover from her injections. I am just lounging around today. Skip was on the computer all morning, so this is my first chance to use it.

Monday - March 10, 2003

11:02 - I missed work today. I am still sick. I think I'm a little better than yesterday though. I've been trying to do all the right things. Lots of liquids (except beer), more sleep, hot soup and I bought bunch of vitamins. I am still coughing though. Mi esperas ke mi sentas pli bona morgauxe.

Tuesday - March 11, 2003

I went to work today, but I coughed and sneezed and felt rotten the entire day. I got my 3 letters in the mail this evening, to cousin Jackie, Billy Terrell and Enoch Terrell.

Wednesday - March 12, 2003

3:13p - I did not get to sleep until after 3:00am this morning. I was coughing constantly. This is the sickest I've been in a long time. I woke again a little after 6:00am, and felt like I had not rested at all. I had turbulent dreams and they seemed to exhaust me. I remember part of one dream...

We were in a car; four of us. The driver was a young man I did not know, but he was of of Middle-Eastern heritage and very young. Next to him was my sister Calisa, who was apparently married to this young man. Calisa seemed younger than she really is, but it was dark and I could not see her clearly. I was sitting behind the driver and to my right was my other sister Darlene. The driver was driving too fast and was being dangerous. I was complaining to him. The more I admonished him, the worse he got. It began raining at some point and it seems we were going down highway 50 in Orlando at about 50 or 60mph. I was scolding the driver telling him he was endangering not only my life and his, but my sisters' lives as well. I was getting very angry and the young driver just kept turning around to talk to me (I don't recall anything he said). My sisters were not saying a word and did not seem to be bothered by the situation at all. I finally decided that nothing I said was going to make the driver more responsible and decided to just ride it out and hope for the best. I was only distracting him further. So, very angrily, and stopped speaking to him and just braced myself for what might happen.... and then I awoke. I felt even worse in real life!

... and that's the best I can remember it.

3:23p - Have some menudo de pollo cooking. It may help clear my sinuses some.

3:45p - It helped a little, I think. I am still coughing and sneezing. It's exhausting me.

Thursday - March 13, 2003

9:27a - I feel a little better today. Still coughing and sneezing, but not as much. I did not get enough sleep last night. I started taking my meds again (now that the 3 main ones have arrived). They made me sleep but kept me from sleeping! Weird.

I made some Mexican style rice for work this morning. I wasn't going to make any at all, but Gary pleaded with me on-line ... how could I refuse? Well, I am going to be late. I should be at arriving at work now.

Friday - March 14, 2003
Florida Trip - Day 1

I got up around 9:00am. Skip went to Schnuck's and bought us a bunch of cabbage and corned beef at a good price. I got laundry done, got packed and headed to Lambert Airport before 4:00pm. I got checked in to the airport using my e-ticket with no problem. The plane was late get off... by about an hour. We arrived in Atlanta at about 9:05p. I located Lisa K. and her fiancé with not much effort an. We took some pictures and slammed a beer down (served by a cute Russian boy), then I ran for my next plane. I had a terrible time finding gate T-4 and was nearly late, but I made it in time. I arrived in Tampa a little after midnight (local time) where Chuck and Gartner were waiting for me. We we to Baxter's for a few drinks (I was guzzling, but not getting drunk). Then we went over to Gartner's trailer (where I took a picture of his dog, Azul). We then went back to Chuck's place, stayed up too late, and finally crashed around 4:00am.

Saturday - March 15, 2003
Florida Trip - Day 2

We got up this morning ... or closer to afternoon... and spent some time sitting on Chuck's pleasant patio. We also took a walk down to one of the pools in his very large apartment complex. The weather was very warm and nice. We went out to St. Petersburg and then to Treasure Island where we found a place to eat called "Pints & Pastimes" where Chuck had a traditional plate of "fish & chips" and I had some fried scallops with a mug of Guinness. We sat out on the veranda and it was really nice. Not too hot, a strong breeze was blowing and the atmosphere was not bad either.

went for a walk on the beach. I didn't really want to go, but I didn't say so to Chuck. It turned out to be a very pleasant excursion and I am so glad we went. The scenery was nice (especially one young digger of shells!) and I got to see dolphins in the wild for the first time in my life! It was awesome! I took some pictures.

We left the beach and went to the BackRoom bar, an little "hold in the wall" place, where we had a few drinks. From there we went to "Georgie's Alibi" ...another bar. This one was a little more upscale (like Chile's or Appleby's). We had a few more drinks and then headed home.

Sunday - March 16, 2003
Florida Trip - Day 3

We got up around 9-ish. We went to the grocery store and picked up some food, then head back to the apartment. I wanted to leave for Orlando by 1:00p, but we did not leave until nearly 2:00p. Then we stopped for gas, then washed the car, then hand-dried the car. We finally got back on the road, but after driving through several miles of down-pouring rain, stopping twice on the way, we eventually reached Orlando after 4:00p, much to my dismay. I called Barb on my cell and she said Jodi had already had to leave, but Nikki and 'her husband' were still there, as well as some other ladies she did not know. Unfortunately, we exited off I-4 early and took a 'scenic route' down OBT. By the time we arrive at Fashion Square at the Ruby Tuesday's, Nikki and T had left. I was very depressed to have missed her, but set my feelings aside. In attendance were Sonia, Sonia's mother and Kim (all 3 from Tallahassee, a five hour drive!); Barbara, Welby and their grand-daughter, Barbie; plus Karen and Mark. I so thrilled to see everyone! I am sorry I missed Jodi and Nikki, but it wasn't their fault we were so late. I offered to pay for Sonia's meal (and her mother's and Kim's) since I owed Sonia a meal. I misunderstood when it came time to pay and THOUGHT I was going to have to pay $125.00!! That turned out to be the total for all parties. My total was much more reasonable and I was relieved.

We left Ruby Tuesday and went by Souther Nights's, but it did not appear to be open. We discovered later that it was. We ended up going to The Full Moon Saloon where the drinks were potent and only $1.75. We were going to go meet Mark H. at Cactus after that, but we were having too much fun and Mark never called Chuck's cell phone to confirm anyway. Before going to the Full Moon, we went to the Hampton Inn at Sand Lake Road and secured our room (I paid for this one). After leaving Full Moon, which I don't really remember, Chuck dropped my off at the Hampton while he gave someone a ride to the truck (Douglas). I just barely remember trying to find my room ... I was smashed!

Monday - March 17, 2003
Florida Trip - Day 4
St. Patrick's Day!

We got up around 8:00a and I had a hang over. Not REAL bad... but bad enough! We ate from the breakfast bar then went back to the room to get ready to go. I/we ended up taking a nap and finally got ourselves up and out by around 11:00a. First we went to a Target store where I was going to pick up some AA batteries for my camera and a Tampa Bay Buccaneers shirt for Rich (at Talana's). I found both, but m ATM/Visa/Debit card would not work!!! Neither as a Visa nor as a Debit card. The ATM would not accept it either. We left there and found a Bank of America (on the corner of Curryford Road and Semoran Blvd.). I was able to get an old card re-PIN'ed and finally had a functional debit card again. Then we went across the street to the Palm Bay apartments, which USED to be the Greentree apartments where Chuck and I were first roommates back in 1978. I took a picture of the apartment we lived in (1987c S. Semoran Blvd.). Then we went to the Big K-Mart around the corner. It was looking old and raggedy compared to when I lived there back in '78. I bought a green pull-over shirt and some batteries, but they did not have the Buccanneers's shirt. We ended up out by Wet & Wild where we had lunch at the KFC across the street and finally head back to Tampa. I dozed a bit on the way. We stopped at Wal-Mart (in Tampa) before getting home where I finally bought Rich's Tampa Buc's shirt and I bought myself a "Kiss me, I'm Irish" t-shirt; then we went to Publix next door and bought some food.

We got home around 5:00p to a minor disaster. One of the water heaters for Chuck's apartment had given out and flooded his and his neighbor's apartments! There were fans placed inside to dry the carpet and it was a mess. It could have been much worse though. We rested and refreshed until 8:00p and listend to the President's announcement in which he have Saddam Hussein 48 hours to leave Iraq or face war. We know what that means!

Around 9:00p we went to Baxter's (I was wearing my new "kiss me" shirt). Baxter's was kind of dead, so we went to Metropolis. It was better there, but we got bored and went to City Light's, by which time things were proving to be getting busier. We then went to 2106 we was my favorite of all the stops, and then headed home. I fell asleep on the sofa and woke up later with the lights out and had to fix me sofa/bed and re-crash.

Florida Trip - Day 4
(time to leave!)
Birthday Memories for my Dad
Frank E. Lewis
March 18, 1926 - May 26, 1988

I got up around 9:00a and the maintenance man knocked on Chuck's door shortly thereafter (about the flood). We got ready and Chuck took me to the airport. I dropped my luggage off at the front/exterior drop-off. Security was heightend 'orange alert' but I did not have much problem. I found my way to my terminal where I had trouble keeping my eyes open. My flight finally boarded and I flew to Atlanta. I found my way easily again and stopped at a Chile's to have lunch. The line was long and I was almost late getting to my next flight, but I made it in sufficient time. My next flight continued without incident (I may have dozed a bit). We landed about 3:05p, I collected my luggage and headed home.

A collage of the Wolf Pack team holding up our plaque

It was a relief to get home of course. It's wonderful to travel, but it's always great to get home (especially when your country is going to war!!).

However, after getting home, I did not have much time to rest. Billy called me and offered me a ride to the "Just Darts" Awards Banquet while I was still on the Metro on the way home! I had very little time to get myself rested and/or together before it was time to head over to the Grey Fox for the banquet. The food was good (spaghetti & meatballs, hot wings, plain wings, salad, chips & dip and more. it was a nice buffet. Then our team, Rainbow's End's Wolf Pack, won both the FIRST and SECOND place positions for Division C. It was a total of $317 in cash prizes plus a plaque for the home bar!

Wednesday - March 19, 2003

It's my first day back to work! Things went about as expected with nothing out of the ordinary. I am still coughing a lot, and have been all through my Florida trip, but it seems to be worse now that I am back to St. Louis. I got a few cans of beer tonight and for some reason that seems to supress my coughing. I put one of the 3 corned beef briskets in the pressure cooker and cooked it for supper tonight. Lots left over!

Thursday - March 20, 2003

I made rice for the first time in a week this morning (Gary was happy!). I made it with left over corned beef and it was pretty good! I made more of the same for supper.

Friday - March 21, 2003
Happy Ostara!
Birthday wishes to ...
Gary Oldman 45 (1958)
Matthew Broderick 41 (1962)
and Rosie O'Donnell 41 (1962)

12:32a - I have finally caught up my diary/journal entries to current! YAY! I must now get to bed.

9:04a - I hear on the news this morning that we have had our first "KIA" in the war.

9:05a - It's a bright sunny day and not cold. I am going to not wear my coat to work today.

8:20p - The war is definitely in progress as of today. We have lost about 6 personnel, but only 2 in combat.

8:21p - Friday, before leaving for Florida, I received an email from a young man in Tartarstan, Russia, name Marg. We have been corresponding nearly every day since my return. It is fascinating!

I went to Talayna's tonight and took the Tampa Bay Buc's shirt to Rich that I bought for him in Tampa. He seemed to be to thrilled with it and was going around showing it off to everyone. I was so happy to have brought this thrill to him. It was cool.

I ordered a shot of Bushmills when I got to Talayna's to help with my chest cold and coughing. Then I ordered an order of eggplant parmagiano and 2 glasses of Pepsi. I decided to have a rum & coke. Tina said they had no white rum, only dark, so I said that would be fine. I drank the rum & coke and was really feelinging it! I was going to leave, but Tina looked disappointed, so I agreed to have one more rum & coke and then leave. But I was starting to feel woozy and only drank about 1 inch or less from the drink. Then I learned that she had been using 151 Rum!!! No wonder I felt "woozy"!!!

I told Jerry to check me out and I left the 2nd drink almost intact! I almost fell asleep on the train ride home... it was a struggle.

Saturday - March 22, 2003

I tried to sleep in and catch up some rest this morning, but am not feeling well. I started coughing again and finally had to throw up!

I have been struggling with this bronchitis or chest cold (or whatever) all day long. Maybe it is that new disease called "SARS"

I took Kira for our first "long" walk of the year. We walked the Arch grounds and then walked down by the river. I took my camera and we had a nice time. I took a picture of a family trio down by the river and

Xavier called me for help today (he needs a place to stay). I could not help him.

11:13p - River World is on at the moment. I hope I got it all recorded properly for Skip. The VCR had some problems, but the movie came on again twice in a row, so I started recording the 'missed' part at the end.

11:36p - Y'aatg' aim' evsingsv' aakb' uute $4,000 aany' epeide. Alyose, Skip eidp' iim' aim' etre; ose Y'aav' ey' aatl' aavy' unmeine ny' aim' okpetke!

Sunday - March 23, 2003

I am up too late and must go to bed....

12:23a - I just had a very pleasant conversation with my friend from Pakistan (now living in KSA). We discussed the war situation. I thought he would be very negative, but his concern, like mine, was primarily for the safety and well being of the Iraqi people.

12:24a - Skip is up and I'm off to bed!

9:55p - I have been so sick all day. I am having trouble breathing and earlier I gagged from coughing so bad that I vomited violently. I have made some supper, but I can barely eat it. I feel weak and nauseous. I am not going to work in the morning. I have to see the doctor. This is getting REAL bad!

Monday - March 24, 2003

9:41p - I went to the doctor today. Both of my doctors were on vacation, so I had to see a different one. It took persistence to even get the appointment, but I finally did get an appointment for 2:40p. I took a cab down and was there a bit early, but I did not get to see the doctor until closer to 3:30. I had been coughing so bad by this time that I think I was close to passing out. One of the Aides ask me if I was okay and I told her that if I was okay I wouldn't be there! My patience were running thin. The doctor put me on some kind of breathing apparatus for a while; then they forgot about me. I finally turned of the breathing machine-thingy and went out looking for someone. Yep, they had forgotten me.

They took chest and sinus x-rays determined, as I was suspecting, that I had pneumonia. Not real bad, but bad enough. I can't imagine what it must like to have this REAL bad! I can understand how people die from pneumonia though!

So then I had to walk to the CAM/Pharmacy several blocks away, and I was practically having to hold onto the walls to walk down the hall, but I made it. It was about 4:42p when I got to the CAM| and the Pharmacy closes at 5:30p. I dropped off my prescriptions and went to find something to eat. I got an orange, a banana and a Frappacino... that proves I was sick! I went back for my prescription and it wasn't ready yet. I had to wait right up to 5:30. They closed the gates behind me. I sat down on a bench outside the pharmacy and went through all the stuff to make sure I had everything. One of the medications was "Levaquin 500mg" and there was only one pill in the bottle (for $10.60!). This seemed strange to me, so I yelled back through the gate and got the pharmacist's attention to let them know. He asked, "Is it the Levaquin?" and I told him yes. He said that's all the doctor prescribed. I thought it was funny that the instructions would say "take once daily" and there was only one pill! I looked Levaquin up and found it to be an antibiotic normally prescribed for 7-14 days (or up 6 weeks). A minimum of 3 days.

I called the doctor's office again and (of course) left voice mail asking if this was a mistake. I will find out tomorrow.

10:32p - I am feeling a little better than I was earlier today. I am not coughing as bad at least.

Meanwhile, the war continues in Iraq. I hope they get this over with quickly.

Tuesday - March 25, 2003
Klingon Holiday: Empire Union Day
Barnabas is 8 years old today
Happy Birthday to Robert O'Reilly!

12:39a- I had to get back out of bed. Every time I lay down, I start hacking. My few moments of feeling better seem years ago... my head is throbbing and my breath is labored. This really sucks. It's actually too hot even, so I turned the AC on for the first time. I am fine laying with just fan if I didn't work up a sweat coughing. It all started just before Skip went to work and I went in the bathroom to get something and inhaled some cigarette smoke. I was fine until that moment. I guess I will turn on the TV and watch some more of the war or something...

1:05a - My coughing fit has subsided and I'm not sweating any more. I am going to try to go back to bed. We'll see if I can make it stick this time...

7:42a - It was touch & go, but I made it to sleep. I woke up a lot, but only coughed a little. I sort of snuck up on it. I am up early this morning. There is a storm brewing. I hear hail is falling at CWE. Of course, Kira started to bark. She over by the window "guarding" now. I couldn't sleep.

9:52a - The doctor's office just called. As I suspected, Dr. T. had prescribed SEVEN of the Levaquin pills, not just one (which made no sense). I can't beleive the pharmacists would be so ignorant. Now its going to cost me more money. I should have paid $25 for 7 pills. Instead, I paid $10.60 for 1 pill, and will have to pay $25 for the other 6 pills. What a pain.

9:55a - It has been beautiful for the past 3 days, but today is very dark, gloom and cold out. Not "winter" cold, but colder than I expected when I took Kira out. Very dismal.

3:35p - What a long boring day. I walked over to Walgreens and got the prescription filled. That was a long, slow walk. It took me forever. I had to stop and hold on to something while I got through a coughing fit about 3 times. People keep staring at me for coughing so much.

3:37p - I order some steamed dumplings, fried dumplings and hot&sour soup from to be delivered then watched "Mr. Deed" (Adam Sandler). It was amusing. Only had one major coughin fir in the middle of it and had to stop it for a bit. It's not so bad when I don't move around much.

3:39p - Skip is off to bed. I will see what up with the war and then maybe get some of that soup.

5:35p - There was no major change on the war front. I had a little of the soup. I am still coughing up fluid and its exhausting. I feel like I am drowning at times. I watched Skip's MIB-II video. I've seen it, but it has been a while.

6:08p - I am really coughing bad now. I just took some of the meds from yesterday, including the Levaquin I picked up this morning. Maybe it will kick in. Meanwhile, I have to take Kira out and the cool air and exertion is going to make me worse. I dread this.

6:56p - It was bad, but I survived. I came in and made a cup of Thera-flu (with some Jack Daniels in it). Drank it very hot and took a long, hot, steamy shower. Maybe it helped, for the moment.

6:58p - Skip picked up a roast for me this weekend. I slice some of it off last night and roast the slices in garlic sauce and bread crumbs. I twas tasty but tough. I took the reset of it tonight and partially sliced it (not all the way through), put some garlic powder on it, some ground pepper, then I poured the remainder of my dumpling dip. The dip is a sweet-vinegary-garlicy sauce. I wrapped the meat in foil and it has been in the over for about 45 minutes now.

Former Senator Patrick Moynahan
passes away today at age 76 today.

12:52p - I got to bed without a major bout of coughing last night. But it was still hard to sleep. Barnabus appears to have "sprayed" Kira's bed and it reeked. I was nauseated all night from the odor. I have spent this morning washing all the bed clothes and putting down carpet freshner. It seems like Skip would have given some assistance. If not because it is his cat pissing on my dog's bed, but even because I am sick with pneumonia and am coughing my head off again. I am so sick. I don't know how I will be well enough for work tomorrow.

2:00p - My head is throbbing from all this coughing :(

4:56p - I finally threw Kira's bed/cushion away. I have no way to properly clean it and it stank so bad I refused to bring it back in the apartment. I picked up a bite to eat at the new Thai fast food place down stairs this afternoon. I was not impressed. I got a beef and green bean dish that looked good, but the bean are practically raw; tough and not very tasty. I am recooking them at the moment!

Today was a beautiful day again. It's a shame I am so sick. This really sucks!

Thursday - March 27, 2003

1:30p - I did go to work again. I had to email my time sheet to Gorgette and HR is mailing me some FMLI paperwork related to being out sick more than 3 days. I am so sleepy, but every time I lay down to sleep my lungs "fill up" and I start coughing. That's why I am so exhausted.

8:41p - I got some ice cream and peach pies this afternoon. I had a rare craving for somthing sweet. I've been think I will try to go to work tomorrow, but I feel awful this evening. I just got through another cough spell and my head is throbbing. I made some batter fried chicken strips for supper this evening, but only ate a little of it. I dozed off on the sofa for 10-15 minutes this evening watching TV. I almost bit my tongue in that position, but I didn't cough. Skip is getting sick and will probably not go to work tonight. That's not good. The second rent check came in today and I paid April's rent to Sonia.

11:57p - Well... I am off to bed. Skip is home sick tonight. I am going to try to go sleep, but I haven't even been able to slouch while watching TV without starting to hack.

Friday - March 28, 2003

12:02p - I am feeling MUCH better today! At last! I got a good night's sleep for a change. But I woke up hearing Skip in the bathroom coughing HIS head off! That's not good. I suggested he call the doctor and get an appointment right away. I am still not at work today, but considered very strongly going in. I decided not to push it. One more day isn't going to make that much difference at this point I suppose.

12:05p - It's such a wet, yucky day out. Gloomy and dark again. Not real cold, but chilly and damp.

11:04p - I cooked another of the briskets for supper... with some cabbage.

Saturday - March 29, 2003

11:21p - This has been a long day. I got up around 9am. Skip was playing EverQuest (or whatever it's called). Took Kira for her walk. Fixed a bite to eat. Walked down to EXECUTIVE for my 11am haircut. Came home and rested for a bit. Caught the 1:12pm Broadway bus to Soulard Market. Bought some meat & veggies, then went out to catch the 1:47 bus back. It ran about 2:10!! I got some about 2:25 and rested a bit more, then I took Kira for a walk on the Arch grounds. I took some pictures of the signs of Spring which encroach upon us. I went back home and went down to the little store for some beer, ice cream, and baggies. It was slightly after 6:00p that Skip FINALLY got off my computer so I could download my pictures, check my email, and otherwise communicate with the world (as I intended when I spent over $1,100 on this computer!! Plus, while waiting for him to let me use MY computer, his cat pissed all over my dog's bedding... AGAIN! This is getting very tiresome.

I put 2 new 60w light bulbs in the kitchen today. I hate DIM light in the kitchen!

I received the FLMA (Family Leave & Medical Act) papers from HR today. I have to get all this fill out since I missed all of last week from work. I can't believe I missed an entire week! That was bad... but what else could I do? I was SO sick!

I decided to go get more beer from James Henry's Provisions (the little store down stairs). They close at 10pm. I went down about 9:45-ish. They were locked up already and would not let me in! They are notorious for this. So, I had to order beer from Mauricio's for (including tip) $18.00. That just really makes me very angry.

Sunday - March 30, 2003

12:08a - I am still catching up from Skip's excessively long GAME day!

10:18p - I am still coughing, but I am much better. I will be going back to work in the morning. I got my laundry done today and my pills all organized for the next week. That has been my main accomplishments of the day. Skip started his earlier hours tonight. He isn't happy about it.

10:31 - I am coughing again... and of course I need to go to bed soon. I hope it subsides.

Monday - March 31, 2003
Bill & Marita's Anniversary - Anniversary of Doug's passing (1996)
Myrtle Everett's Birthday - and my Naval Enlistment day (1976)

7:49a - I am so ready to go back to work today! Being out sick a week was no fun. I finished my HIPAA training at home last night. Skip is NOT happy with his new hours. It's a bright, sunny day this morning, but a bit chilly with a breeze.

I had disturbing dreams about the war last night. That was weird. Something about helicopters being forced down and the passengers being summarily shot along a chain link fence. It was a very short but disturbing dream.

8:10a - I am way ahead of schedule this morning! Kira has been walked and I am showered and dressed already. Still need to shave though... I better not forget.

8:29a - Wow... I am totally ready for work already. This is way to early!

We have a new employee today... maybe he started while I was sick last week. His name is Jim K... something. I missed his last name.

I got the paperwork turned in to the doctor this afternoon. Dr. T. is on vacation now, and Dr. A is due back tomorrow.
