1. Refrigerator |
We moved into the new house in Cahokia on August 26, 2003. Today it is September 14, 2003, and the place is still pretty much a disaster. We are slowly getting acclimated, but it is a slow process with both of us working opposite shifts. By the time we travel to/from work on the bus and train, run by the store, fix some supper, take care of a few odd chores, its time to go to bed and start over! Here are some more pictures of the house as things look today on September 14, 2003. I will take more pictures in the future to show what progress we make in making the place more like a real home. |

| Here is the refrigerator which is located in the laundry/pantry area. This is unlike any other house I have ever lived in. It it a bit awkward at times to run back & forth to the refrigerator in steat of just reaching over and opening it. | |

This is the bathroom. It looks a little funny because it was two seaparate pictures which I "stitched" together. This caused a little bit of a "fishbowl" effect. Also, the lighting was different on each of them. When we moved in, there was no towel rack, no toilet paper dispenser nor a curtain rod for the shower. Those matters have been remedied, but there are still no plugs in the shower or sink; the shower doesn't work right (most of the water comes out of the faucet); and the one & only power outlett is dead. Yesterday we put a door stop behind the door handle since it was hitting my bedroom wall and was going to put a hole in it in time. It's getting there... slowly but surely... |

This is the hallway as taken from the living room. To my right (not in view) is the kitchen. To my left (not in view) is the front door. Going down the hallway the first door on the left is my "office." At the end of the hall is Skip's room (but he has not bed for it as yet). |

This is from the other end of the hallway looking back to where I was standing in the above picture. And there's Kira, always following me around to see what I am doing! On the left, you can see a small portion of my bedroom door, then the bathroom door (with a smidgen of tile showing)). Behind Kira is the office. You can see the unpacking chaos at the end of the hall in the livingroom/kitchen area. |

Before moving in, I bought a barely used washer and dryer set for $100/ea. Here they are in the laundry area. The stack of boxes barely visible to the left are actually EMPTIED boxes... we are making *SOME* progress! |

This is the room I am sitting in now which I call "the office." My older computers, still not set up, are visible on the small desk here in the background. |

And here is my desk with the PC up & running and connect to the internet once again. |

This is Skip's room... or will be eventuall. At present it more like the cat's dining room and Skip's storage area. |

Back to the kitchen.... here are the tracklights over the stove & sink area. I do like these! You can also see the Crock Pot that Jack LaPlante got me for my 43rd birthday; the turkey platter that Diana Murayama gave me; the large stainless-steel bowl and the top portion of the double-boiler that Cheryl Jost gave me (when I moved in to Gentry's); and the wine racks which are all held up by one small screw! (I have to get them installed more efficiently!). |

Today is Sunday (9-14-03) ... two more days until our FIRST trash pick-up! It will be none too soon either. The flies have started to become a real nuisance and it looks... well, "trashy" !! To the far let side, you might see the edge of a barrell. This barrell was provided to my by my friends Marty and JR in whcih to dump cans for recycling. They have already picked up one barrell-full (well ... not very full, but there were *some* cans in it). My hanging plant (which I rescued from the trans on June 30, 2001, is doing great outside where it is getting sunlight, fresh air and rain. So are my small plant in the planter on the ground. They have really flourished! The one on the hanger is one that I got from the garbage when I lived with Jack & Adam after first moving here. |
