LISA & DARLENE ON THE SWATHER....
These are my sisters, Calisa (left) and Darlene
(right). This picture was taken back in Lancaster, CA. They are on "the
swather" ... an item of farm equipment very similar to a combine
in design, but its function is to lay alfalfa in rows for the "bailer"
to scoop up and make into bails of hay. In the background one might see
a small white shack. That was our small 2-room home. We live there for
six years. We were not people with money to our name, but we never thought
of ourselves as "poor." I thought we were wonderfully rich!
... just not financially. This picture would have been taken in about
1964.
