Esperanto Associationof St. Louis title

The members of the Esperanto Association of St. Louis enjoy using and promoting the international second language: Esperanto.  If you live in the St. Louis area, we hope you'll come to one of our events.  Other clubs in the midwest include the Esperanto Association of Kansas City and the Esperanto Society of Chicago.

Mez-Usona Regiona Konferenco:

Some Esperanto speakers from Illinois joined us for meals, discussions and Esperanto films on Saturday, May 15, 2004.  We hope that another midwestern club will plan another MURK so we can visit them!

Monthly Meetings:

  • Throughout most of the year, we meet on the third Sunday of each month beginning at 1:30 p.m., and beginners are very welcome.  We meet on the second floor of the University City Public Library on Delmar Boulevard at Kingsland Avenue, halfway between Big Bend Blvd. and Skinker Blvd.  *** We did not having a meeting in December 2005.  Our banquet was on Sun. December 11, and we are cancelled the meeting that would normally occur on Sunday, December 18, 2005. ***
  • Throughout most of the year, our conversation group meets on the first Friday of each month, 6:00 p.m., at Wild Oats on Ladue, which is near 170.  Beginners are welcome!

Educational and Social Activities:

Aside from our regular meetings and conversation groups, we enjoy barbecues, games nights, sightseeing trips, and other special events.

These two photos are from our excursion to the town of Hermann, a part of Missouri Wine Country.  On other occasions, our club has visited places such as the St. Louis Zoo, the Missouri Botanical Garden, and the Saint Louis Art Museum.  This year, we will be visiting Laumeier Sculpture Park.  We use these ekskursojn (excursions) and our monthly conversation groups to practice using Esperanto and to expand our vocabularies.

Our group has participated twice in the International FolkFest in Queeny Park and once in the Festival of Nations at Tower Grove Park.  At our information table, we displayed various Esperanto books and magazines, passed out brochures and magnets, and talked with plenty of interesting and friendly people.

These events feature international music, dancing, and food; they are sponsored by the International Institute of St. Louis.

Our club members made the arrangements for the 47th annual convention of the Esperanto League for North America, which was held here in St. Louis in July 1999.  This was a lot of work, but we felt like it was worth it!
